Alina's Story
Alina was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma on 12/10/2004, just two days before her 4th birthday. She was in remission for 4 years. A routine check up in December of 2009 and follow up scans in February showed that she had relapsed. What is Neuroblastoma?
Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer of the sympathetic nervous system. The cause of neuroblastoma is unknown, though most physicians believe that it is a accidental cell growth that occurs during normal development of the adrenal glands. The National Cancer Institute's (NCI) federal budget was $4.6 billion. Of that, breast cancer received 12%, prostate cancer received 7%, and all major groups of pediatric cancers combined received less than 3%. Visit BandofParents.org to learn more.
